Our Test, Diagnose & Repair Process

01

Document Vehicle Information

VIN, mileage, year/make/model, color, license plate. Photos of the vehicle's condition. This becomes part of your written report.

02

Full OBD-II Scan — Live & Stored Codes

We pull all codes from all modules. Stored, pending, freeze-frame. Many cleared-recently codes will show in pending status — sellers can't hide them from a proper scan.

03

Underhood Inspection (Top To Bottom)

Visible fluid leaks, hose condition, belt condition, battery age and health, alternator output, signs of recent repair work, evidence of accident damage (mismatched paint, new bolts, missing clips).

04

On The Lift — Underbody Inspection

Frame condition (rust, bends, evidence of welding), exhaust condition, drivetrain leaks, CV boots, suspension component wear, brake condition, tire condition (date code, tread depth, wear pattern), and any signs of off-road or flood damage.

05

Road Test (Cold Start, Warmup, Highway)

Cold start behavior, warm-up smoothness, idle quality, transmission shift behavior in all gears, brake performance, steering response, alignment feel, A/C and heat function, all electronics and accessories.

06

Written Report With Photos & Recommendations

You get a full report: green (good), yellow (will need attention soon), red (needs work now). Each item with notes. Photos of any major concerns. Estimated cost of any needed repairs. You can hand the seller a copy and negotiate.

How We Get It Right

What We Use

  • Pro-Grade Scan Tool — All modules, all codes, all freeze-frame data — including codes a parts-store reader misses.
  • Lift — Half the truth about a vehicle is underneath. No proper inspection happens without it on a lift.
  • Brake Gauges, Tire Tread Depth Gauges — Specific measurements, not 'looks ok.'
  • Battery & Alternator Tester — Load tests, not just voltage.
  • Coolant Strip & Block Tester — If we suspect head gasket issues we can test cheaply on the spot.
  • Borescope — For checking inside cylinders, behind dashboards, into tight spaces.

What's Included In The Report

  • Engine Condition — Compression test (on request), oil condition, leaks, codes, mounts.
  • Transmission Condition — Fluid condition, shift quality, codes, leaks, mounts.
  • Brakes & Suspension — Pad/rotor condition, strut/shock condition, joints, alignment indicators.
  • Tires & Wheels — Tread depth at multiple points, date codes, wheel condition, alignment-related wear patterns.
  • Electrical & Electronics — Battery health, alternator output, all accessories, infotainment, climate control, lights.
  • Body & Frame — Paint condition, panel gaps, frame condition, evidence of prior repairs.
  • Service History Indicators — Maintenance stickers, condition of consumables, evidence of recent work.

★ Common Questions ★

Frequently Asked

How much is a pre-purchase inspection?
$150–$250 depending on vehicle type. Trucks and large SUVs take longer. Diesel inspections are higher. We give you a flat price up front.
How long does it take?
Most inspections take 90 minutes to 2 hours. Plan to leave the vehicle with us — we can usually do them the same day if you call ahead.
Can the seller wait while you inspect?
Yes. Some sellers prefer to wait — that's fine. We don't take any longer with them there.
What if the inspection finds something major?
You take the report back to the seller and either negotiate the price down by repair cost or walk away. That $150 inspection has saved customers thousands.
Can you inspect a vehicle in another city?
We're based in San Jacinto and can travel within reason for high-value vehicles in the area. For inspections outside the San Jacinto Valley — including out-of-state and remote purchases — check out our sister brand PPI Auto, which handles pre-purchase inspections nationwide.
