A modern tune-up isn't points and a distributor cap anymore — it's spark plugs at the right gap, healthy coils, clean injectors, a clean throttle body, and current PCM software. Done right, a tune-up restores lost MPG, smooths out idle, and brings back the power you had when the vehicle was new. Backed by the Supercanic network warranty.
Before we touch anything we scan the vehicle, document codes, and look at long-term fuel trims, ignition timing, and misfire counters. This tells us if there's already a problem to address — not just a routine tune.
We pull at least one or two plugs (or all of them) and inspect: gap, color, electrode wear, and any signs of oil fouling, coolant intrusion, or detonation. Plug condition tells the truth about each cylinder.
Plugs gapped to manufacturer spec — many modern iridium plugs are pre-gapped but should still be verified. Anti-seize on plugs that call for it, not on plugs that don't (Ford modular V8s, for example, do not get anti-seize). Torqued to spec.
We test ignition coils with a scope where indicated. Failing coils get replaced — usually the worst one first, but on high-mileage vehicles we recommend all of them. Wires (where applicable) inspected and replaced if cracked, burnt, or high-resistance.
Carbon buildup in the throttle body causes rough idle and slow throttle response. We clean it properly (off the vehicle on heavily fouled ones, on-vehicle for routine maintenance). Direct-injection engines may need walnut-blast carbon cleaning at higher mileage.
Clear codes, drive the vehicle through a full drive cycle, watch live data, and confirm misfire counts at zero and fuel trims back to normal. You see the before/after.
Standard on most repairs. Parts and labor. If something we touched fails, we fix it again — no charge, no argument. That's how locally-owned shops have to operate.
